It's now the country's innovation capital, home to high-tech giants such as Tencent and Huawei as well as many start-ups.
Shenzhen (China) is known for being the area where over 90% of electronics like smartphones are manufactured and assembled. It boasts a vibrant maker scene and an informal open innovation culture. Combined with readily available resources, capital and manufacturing capacity, Shenzhen seems to be the perfect place for makers to turn their ideas into reality. In 'View Source: Gearing up for Shenzhen’ we follow a team of designers in their quest for a smart bike lock for their start-up. They learn that Shenzhen revolves first and foremost around doing business, but also boasts unique collaborative environment where principles around privacy, security and inclusiveness resonate, albeit in a different dialect. This documentary is a creative investigation of the different layers of the Shenzhe...

Fintech, its all about FinTech in Shanghai. And as a finance guy, I am very nerdy around this. Shanghai is the financial capital of China and they are leading the development of FinTech in China, and probably in the world. The Chinese jumped the step of having credit cards and when straight to mobile payments, which is pretty cool. That has totally changed the way the Chinese see at payment and the future of wealth management has totally changed. See more about it in the video!
“One week of work in Shenzhen is equal to one month at the Silicon Valley”. The rapidity of prototyping and manufacturing is the main strength of the Chinese metropolis according to all the startups, incubators and companies we met during our learning tour in what is considered already as the hardware capital of the world. We organised this tour in November to expose our participants, a semi-dozen of innovation and IT directors from large French groups, to the innovation ecosystem of a city which is already compared to the Silicon Valley, at least for electronics.
